How to Battle Self-Doubt as a Writer

ree

Hey fellow writers!

📚 Welcome back to our Wednesday Writing Tip!

This week, we’re tackling one of the most common struggles writers face, imposter syndrome, that nagging voice in your head whispering, “You’re not a real writer.”

If you’ve ever stared at your screen and thought, “Who am I kidding?”—you’re not alone. That feeling of self-doubt is more common than you might think, and it doesn’t go away just because you’ve published a book or built an audience. In fact, sometimes it gets louder.

In an article from Writer’s Digest, author Allison Landa shares her personal struggle with imposter syndrome. Even after publishing her work and building a writing career, she still found herself questioning whether she truly belonged in the writing world. Ever felt that way too?

Here’s the thing: feeling like an imposter doesn’t mean you are one. It means you care. It means you’re putting yourself out there. It means you’re growing—and that can feel uncomfortable. But discomfort is often a sign that you’re moving forward.

So how can we push past the doubt and keep writing anyway?

📝 Show up, even when you don’t feel ready. Write something—anything. The more you show up, the more that voice quiets down.

📝 Talk to other writers. Most will tell you they’ve felt the same way. There’s comfort in knowing you’re not alone.

📝 Celebrate the small victories. Finishing a draft, hitting “submit,” or even journaling for 10 minutes counts.

📝 Remind yourself that you belong. If you write, you’re a writer. You don’t need permission or a title—your words are enough.

As Allison reminds us, the most important thing is to keep writing. Every word you put on the page is a quiet act of resistance against doubt.

So the next time that inner voice tries to tell you you’re not good enough, say back:

“Actually, I am.”

And then keep going.

Until next week—write on, believe in your voice, and know that the world needs your story. 💛

Happy Writing!
