Three Ways To Strengthen Your Writing

Hey fellow writers!

Welcome to the IABX Wednesday Writing Tip! Today, we're diving into three simple steps to strengthen your writing.

The path to becoming a published author can be winding, but improving your writing doesn’t have to be complicated. No matter how busy you are, there are easy ways to enhance your skills. Author Aine Greaney shares three simple tips to help you on your journey:

1. Have the Desire to Write

For writers, desire means prioritizing writing above almost everything else. It's about being willing to make sacrifices and tough choices to pursue your passion. If you truly want to be a writer, you must be committed to regular, sustained writing, even if it means giving up other activities or making significant lifestyle changes.

2. Develop Self-Discipline

Self-discipline is crucial for writing. It's not just about waiting for inspiration; it's about putting in the work consistently. Remember, writing is half inspiration, half perspiration. Don't let excuses get in the way—hold yourself accountable and make writing a regular habit.

3. Create a Daily Writing Habit

Creating a daily writing habit is essential, even if you have a busy schedule. Don't fall into the trap of saving all your writing for the weekend. Consistent daily practice is key to making progress. Plus, even small efforts throughout the week can add up to significant results.

If you’re a beginner or even a beginner-to-intermediate writer, you need to write something—preferably a set, targeted amount—every day. By spending time—even if it’s just ten minutes—with your writing every day, you will:

  • Give creative writing a higher ranking in your weekly and life priorities

  • Develop and hone your skills with written language

  • Build your writing stamina, confidence, and voice

By following these three tips from Aine Greaney, you can strengthen your writing and stay committed to your craft.

Happy Writing!
