Motivation - Success Comes to the Determined

This Monday, let’s remind ourselves of the incredible power of determination with these words from Henry Van Dyke: “Some succeed because they are destined to, but most succeed because they are determined to.”

We often hear about “destiny” as if success is something only a chosen few are born with—a path already carved out for them. But in truth, most of the people who reach their goals don’t get there by chance or fate. They succeed because they make a decision, commit to it, and keep going no matter how many obstacles stand in their way.

Determination is what fuels us when things get difficult. It’s what helps us get back up after setbacks, keep showing up when progress feels slow, and stay focused when distractions threaten to pull us off track. While talent and opportunity can give us a head start, it’s grit, consistency, and hard work that truly build lasting success.

Think about it—history is filled with stories of people who weren’t “destined” to achieve greatness. Many started with nothing, faced countless failures, and had every reason to give up. But they pressed forward, determined to turn their vision into reality. Their persistence is what made the difference.

This week, instead of wondering if success is meant for you, decide that it is—and let determination lead the way. Take small, steady steps. Keep pushing through the challenges. And remind yourself that success isn’t about fate—it’s about refusing to quit until you reach your goal.
