Monday Motivation - Start Where You Are

Writer: Daisy Sta AnaDaisy Sta Ana

Happy Monday, IABX community!

Today’s dose of motivation comes from a simple yet profound quote by Theodore Roosevelt: “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

This statement reminds us that we don't need perfect conditions to start working toward our goals. We often think we need more time, money, or skills, but the truth is, we already have what we need to begin.

Here’s why this philosophy is so empowering:

1. Start Small and Build Momentum

Every significant achievement begins with a small step. Whether you’re an aspiring author or a seasoned writer, the key is to start with what you have. Begin drafting that book idea you’ve been contemplating. Write one page a day. Every small effort compounds over time, creating momentum that drives you forward.

2. Utilize Your Current Resources

Look around and take stock of what you have at your disposal. Do you have a notebook and pen? A computer with word-processing software? Access to the internet for research? These simple tools are all you need to start. Sometimes, constraints can even spur creativity, leading to innovative solutions you might not have considered otherwise.

3. Embrace Your Environment

No matter where you are, your environment offers unique opportunities. Maybe you’re in a quiet corner of your home, a bustling coffee shop, or even a park. Use the inspiration around you. The sounds, sights, and experiences can enrich your work and provide fresh perspectives.

4. Focus on Action, Not Perfection

Waiting for the perfect conditions often leads to inaction. Instead, focus on doing the best you can with what you have right now. Progress, not perfection, is the goal. Every step you take, no matter how small, brings you closer to your aspirations.

5. Build Resilience and Resourcefulness

Learning to work with what you have builds resilience and resourcefulness. It teaches you to adapt and make the most of every situation. These qualities are invaluable in navigating the unpredictable nature of life and the creative process.

As you embark on this week, remember Roosevelt’s words and take that first step. Write that paragraph, draft that outline, or brainstorm new ideas. Whatever your goal, start today with what you have.

Here’s to a productive and inspiring week ahead! 🚀

Have a great week.
